From the dawn of literacy,Inanna was worshipped for three thousand years as the passionate, fiery lion-goddess of the morning and evening star, Queen of Heaven and Earth whose wrath was the towering thunderstorm, but whose kindness brought gentle rains, fertility and abundance.

As Goddess of Justice who brought Civilisation, She still lives in our minds as the archetype of transformed instincts. Aggression (War) becomes discrimination, and sexuality (Love) becomes association. These lie at the core of everything we learn.
But more than this, She slew the Dragon of Kur, symbol of the older Mother-goddess, creator and devourer. Now humanity could grow up!

By Her Descent into the underworld, the Great Below, and Her triumphant return, She gave us a paradigm for what we all must do. She brought Her power of love to the depths, so even Ereshkigal would later love Nergal. Equally, we must love our darkness, and work with it as a partner. No more passive son-lovers like Adonis with Cybele; no more helpless daughters like Persephone waiting for her mother Demeter.
Inanna demands the courageous, truly individuated human being.
And She lives with us forever: in our hearts.
